We’ve updated the Lemmy software and have enabled Open Registrations. Let us know if there are any bugs. We noticed we get a lot of signups and approve a lot of people, but not a lot of people log in afterwards. Hopefully this will fix that issue, but if we notice too many problems’ manual approvals might come back.

Thankfully this server is too “taboo” to make a million bots for. Plus the lack of downvotes to manipulate what people see.

Here’s hoping. 🤞 We made a snapshot, so if anything super crazy happens, we’ll be able to revert back with little to no issues. I don’t see that needing to happen though, I think even if we do get some problems, Lemmy’s inbuilt tools should be enough for us to handle them.

Please also report if you suspect bots are signing up too.

How would open registration help them login after already being registered?

It’s not to help the people already registered to log in. We think one of the reasons people never log in is because of the current approval process where someone has to wait a while before fully being approved. Especially since we don’t have an email server or any other way of letting people know their accounts have been approved. With this system, they can log right in after successful signup…

Gotcha. Makes sense. I was a little confused myself when signing up.
